ABOUT THE ROLE

Operations carries out a range of activities to ensure vessels are maintained in good condition, operated safely by people with the required skills, and that cargoes are handled and stowed appropriately to ensure safe transit. Our people undertake a range of flexible and targeted compliance functions, including communication and education, provision of information and advice, certification and monitoring activities, incident investigation and the issue of notices as the need arises.

A Port Marine Surveyor’s role includes:

  • Undertake marine surveys, inspections, and investigations to establish compliance with maritime safety, pollution and other legislation. 
  • Liaise with industry on technical matters and represent AMSA in appropriate forums.
  • Remain calm and focused when working under pressure.
  • Carry out compliance and permissioning activities as required.
  • Commit to the AMSA Code of Conduct and Values.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 
To be successful in this position, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • A Degree relevant to the role. For example, (Marine Engineering, Nautical Science or Naval Architecture); or,
  • An STCW Marine Engineer Class 1 or Master (Unlimited), whether valid or not,
  • Knowledge of the domestic and international maritime safety regulations. 
  • Ability to hold and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
  • Hold and maintain a current driver’s licence.
  • Demonstrated significant and relevant maritime industry experience.
