$149,860 - $173,729 + 15.4% super

Location - Brisbane preferred, other AMSA office locations (Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra) will be considered.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Advisor, Engineering Aids to Navigation (AtoN) is responsible for delivering expert technical support and oversight across the construction, maintenance, and repair of AMSA’s AtoN structures and systems.  This includes ensuring robust engineering governance, optimising asset performance, and supporting the effective scheduling and delivery of project programs.

 

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading and managing the AtoN engineering team, ensuring high-quality outputs, staff development, and welfare.
  • Developing and implementing strategic engineering policies, standards, and documentation.
  • Overseeing technical assessments, reports, and specifications related to AtoN infrastructure.
  • Managing project planning, budgeting, and risk-based prioritisation for AtoN works.
  • Providing expert engineering advice to support project delivery.
  • Overseeing lifecycle assessment, analysing asset condition and performance data to inform maintenance strategies.
  • Managing technical documentation, qualified equipment lists, and modification control processes.
  • Acting as a technical authority and resolving complex engineering issues across business units.
  • Ensuring compliance with procurement policies, environmental standards, and WHS legislation.

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

To be successful in this position, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • A degree in engineering or a related technical field, with at least 5 years’ experience leading technical functions.  Chartered Engineer status (or the ability to obtain Australian professional accreditation) is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering governance, design processes, and technical operations.
  • In-depth understanding of structural assets within marine or coastal environments; experience with AtoN systems is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the assessment, design, and remediation of maritime infrastructure and heritage buildings.
  • Solid experience in strategic asset management, including lifecycle planning, risk management, and work program prioritisation.
  • Proficiency in using computerised asset management systems.
  • Proven leadership capability in managing high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative technical teams, with a focus on capability development and effective workload management.
