About the Role

As Advisor - Safety Management, you will support AMSA's oversight of maritime safety management systems across Australia's vessel fleet.

Working with inspectors, surveyors, compliance specialists and industry stakeholders, you will provide technical advice, analyse safety performance information and contribute to the continuous improvement of regulatory practices that support safer vessel operations.

In this role you will:

  • Provide specialist advice and operational support relating to vessel safety management systems.
  • Develop and maintain operational policy, guidance and procedures.
  • Monitor performance information and identify emerging risks and trends.
  • Contribute to compliance, audit and regulatory assurance activities.
  • Support nationally consistent regulatory practices across Australia.
  • Engage with stakeholders and represent AMSA at industry forums.

 

What We're Looking For

You will bring:

  • Strong knowledge of Australian legislation covering safety management systems of ships and their operators.
  • Extensive experience operating or auditing maritime safety management system.
  • Proven ability to influence technical stakeholders, support capability development, and promote nationally consistent safety management practices.
  • Sound judgement in interpreting and applying legislation, policy and technical guidance to safety management and auditing matters.
  • Experience developing clear, practical and nationally consistent safety management system guidance, training materials, checklists, procedures and knowledge management resources.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to identify trends and emerging risks, and prepare clear reporting for management, executive or Board-level audiences.
  • Experience supporting digital inspection tools, SharePoint resources, performance dashboards or continuous improvement initiatives is desirable.
